Terms of Service & Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 18, 2026  ·  dengate.xyz

01 Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, signing in, or using any part of the Dengate platform or desktop application (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and Privacy Policy ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

These Terms form a binding legal agreement between you and Dengate ("we," "us," "our"). Using the Service on behalf of an organisation means you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

02 Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are between 13 and 18, you must have consent from a parent or legal guardian. By using the Service you confirm that you meet these requirements.

The Service is not directed at children under 13. If we become aware that a user is under 13, we will promptly delete their account and associated data.

03 Account & Authentication

Sign-in Methods

Dengate offers two ways to create an account:

If you register anonymously and do not provide an email address, please note that we will have no way to verify your identity for account recovery. If you lose your password, we may be unable to restore access to your account.

On the desktop application, authentication follows RFC 8252 (OAuth 2.0 for Native Apps): your system browser opens briefly for the Google consent screen, then closes. No credentials are stored on your device by Dengate.

Session Tokens

We issue a short-lived session token after authentication. On the web platform this is stored in a secure, httpOnly cookie (30-day expiry). On the desktop application it is kept in memory for the duration of your session only.

Account Responsibility

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@dengate.xyz if you suspect unauthorised access.

04 Data We Collect

Activity Data (generated by use)

Audio (transient, not stored)

Your microphone audio is captured and transmitted in real time during voice sessions using encrypted WebRTC. We do not record, store, or replay your audio. Only the session metadata listed above is persisted.

Optional Profile Data (web platform)

The web platform allows you to optionally add social links (Discord, Twitch, YouTube, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok), PC hardware specs, and a profile background image. Providing this information is entirely optional.

What We Do Not Collect

We do not collect payment information, precise location, or any data from your device beyond what is described above.

05 How We Use Your Data

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.

06 Third-Party Services

Dengate integrates with the following third-party services. By using the Service you acknowledge that data may flow to these providers as described.

ServicePurposeData SharedTheir Policy
Google Authentication Auth code, client ID policies.google.com
Cloudinary Avatar & image hosting Uploaded images cloudinary.com/privacy
Steam / Valve Game library sync Your Steam ID (only if you link your account) Steam Privacy Policy

PostHog Optional analytics Page events, UTM parameters — only if you opt in posthog.com/privacy

Analytics opt-in: PostHog analytics are disabled by default. You will only be tracked if you explicitly consent via the cookie/analytics banner on the web platform. You can withdraw consent at any time.

07 Voice Chat & Audio

Dengate provides real-time, audio-only voice chat through its own Selective Forwarding Unit (SFU) server. All audio transport is encrypted using DTLS (the WebRTC standard). Voice rooms support between 2 and 6 participants.

What We Store

We store session metadata only: who participated, the game played, and the duration. Audio is never recorded or stored.

Microphone Permission

The desktop application will request access to your microphone. You can revoke this permission in your operating system settings at any time; doing so will disable voice functionality.

Room Codes

You may share a numeric room code with others to allow them to join your voice session directly. Anyone with the code can join. Do not share codes publicly if you want a private session.

08 Friend Messaging

The web platform provides direct messaging between mutual friends. Messages are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM. Only the sender and recipient can read message content. Dengate does not read your messages.

Message history is stored on our servers and is accessible to you within the app. You are responsible for the content of messages you send. See Section 11 for prohibited conduct.

Note: Automated content moderation is not currently applied to messages. If you receive abusive messages, please report the user via support@dengate.xyz.

09 Peer Ratings & Fame

After each voice session you may rate other participants: upvote, downvote, or skip. Downvotes require a reason selected from: toxic behavior, harassment, cheating, AFK, or other.

Fame Score

Upvotes accumulate as your public fame count, visible on your profile and the leaderboard. Fame scores are not editable by users directly.

Fame is a Dengate community reputation metric — peer upvotes for being a good teammate. It is not a skill rating: it is not a rank, MMR, ELO, or any measure of in-game performance, and Dengate does not compute, estimate, or display any such skill value derived from in-game data.

How Ratings Are Used

10 Beacons

A Beacon is a public "looking for teammates" signal you can light for a specific game. Each account may have one Beacon at a time. A Beacon may include:

Beacons are public. When lit, your Beacon — including your display name, avatar, note, hashtags, and any media link — can be seen by anyone, including people who do not have a Dengate account and search engines. Do not put information in a Beacon that you do not want to be public.

Visibility

A lit Beacon appears in the per-game Beacon feed, on your public profile card, and may be displayed on public "find teammates" pages that are indexed by search engines. Beacons from users you have blocked, in either direction, are hidden from your feed.

Lit, Bump & Extinguish

A Beacon stays lit for 24 hours after you light or bump it, then automatically becomes unlit and stops being shown publicly. You can bump it back to the top once every 24 hours, or extinguish it at any time to hide it immediately.

Embedded Media

If you attach a YouTube or Twitch link, the corresponding video, clip, or channel is embedded in your Beacon and loaded directly from YouTube or Twitch by the viewer's browser. Embedded media is subject to those providers' own terms and privacy policies (see Section 06).

Reporting & Moderation

Any signed-in user can report a Beacon as inappropriate. Reports are stored and may be reviewed by Dengate staff, who may remove a Beacon and take action against the account at our discretion. You are responsible for the content of your Beacon, and the prohibited-conduct rules in Section 11 apply to it.

11 Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to use the Service to:

Violation of these rules may result in temporary suspension or permanent removal of your account at our sole discretion, with or without prior notice.

12 Intellectual Property

The Dengate name, logo, and all Service content (excluding user-generated content) are the intellectual property of Dengate and may not be copied, modified, or distributed without prior written permission.

By uploading a profile image or other content, you grant Dengate a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, display, and deliver that content solely for the purpose of operating the Service. You retain ownership of your content.

Third-Party Games & Trademarks

Game titles referenced on the Service are the property of their respective owners, and Dengate is not affiliated with or endorsed by any game publisher.

Dengate isn't endorsed by Riot Games and doesn't reflect the views or opinions of Riot Games or anyone officially involved in producing or managing Riot Games properties. League of Legends and Riot Games are trademarks or registered trademarks of Riot Games, Inc.
